We provide accurate, practical, and dependable advice for owners and operators of power plant assets such as boilers, piping, and turbines. Life management of these components is often complicated by significant prior service, advanced alloys with complex metallurgy, and the need to endure flexible operating cycles.
Our depth and breadth of expertise spans all phases of the component lifecycle: design, fabrication, operation, condition assessment and repairs/replacement. Our know-how includes damage susceptibility of advanced steels, effects of stress state, and implications of complex operating cycles that result in combined creep-fatigue-oxidation damage.
We will systematically and diligently work through the details of your particular challenges to provide accurate, practical, and dependable advice.
In the never-ending quest for improved efficiency, power plant design drives components to operate at higher pressures and temperatures. Our knowledge of advanced materials and mechanical integrity puts us in a unique position to advise you on key risks and challenges. Our experience includes advanced ultrasupercritical coal plants, state-of-the-art combined cycle concepts, and innovative cycles such as central solar molten salt receivers.
Existing plants may have inherent design or fabrication flaws, and operating practices may have consumed component life. We can review design, materials selection, fabrication practices, and operating data to understand vulnerabilities and establish a risk-based life management plan for boilers, piping (e.g., B31.1 compliance), or turbines. We can also advise on corrective actions to mitigate damage accumulation.
We can assess the significance of flaws on future serviceability and provide remaining life estimates and associated life management plans for operation, inspection, repair, or replacement. Our assessments include review of all relevant damage mechanisms for the appropriate material condition. The validity of predictions is enhanced by not only projecting future serviceability, but also ensuring the assessment would accurately predict the existing state of damage based on historical operating data.
We can advise on new plant designs (particularly boilers, HRSGs, and piping) and audit OEM features to ensure durability and longevity of components.
When failures occur, it is important to understand the underlying cause and take action to mitigate future failures. We understand failure mechanisms and what causes them to help you improve design, operation, or maintenance practices
We can create training tailored to your needs for any aspect of design, materials, mechanical integrity, operations, or life management of your assets.
